How do our paper towel dispensers work?

They may be cleverly engineered, but you don’t need to be an engineer to work our dispensers!
Most units in our collection operate by releasing paper – one sheet at a time – simply by pulling down on the paper. If it’s a centrefeed dispenser, again, paper is released by pulling it down (directly from the centre of the roll) – then tearing off the exact length that you require.  
They’re also designed with a simple refill mechanism. 
Thanks to the blue transparent viewing panel, it’s easy to keep an eye on the paper level. When it starts to run low, you can quickly release the front panel – using the supplied key. Pop in a new pack of paper and push the panel back up. This will automatically lock when it’s closed.
Hand towels can simply be stacked inside the dispenser. Or to install a new blue roll, you’ll need to remove the cardboard core first – then pull the first piece of paper down through the opening at the base of the unit. Either way, it’s a super quick and effortless process.

Are paper hand towel dispensers hygienic?

Absolutely – in fact, we’d say that’s one of their main advantages.
By fully enclosing the paper towels or blue roll, dispensers ensure that users only touch the paper they need. Compared to taking a sheet from the top of a pile or tearing blue paper straight from the roll, this significantly reduces the risk of cross-contamination. No matter how many times the dispenser is used, the paper remains clean – reducing the spread of germs.
Paper is also much more hygienic than a hand dryer.  
Whilst some research has shown that dryers can actually increase bacteria, paper towels can absorb the microbes on your hands – and as they’re disposable, they reduce the potential for cross-contamination. The sensible option to help promote good hand hygiene in your nursery.

Are our paper towel dispensers eco-friendly?

Most of our dispensers for hand towels are made from ABS plastic – and we agree, the word ‘plastic’ definitely doesn’t scream ‘meeting our early years sustainability goals’. But let us put your mind at rest.
Protecting the planet is a huge priority for us, too, here at Smudge & Dribble. We always endeavour to find products in line with our environmental values. And whilst the paper towel dispensers in our collection may be made from plastic, their design facilitates precise dispensing – which significantly minimises waste and promotes sustainability.  
It’s also worth noting, despite being single-use, paper towels are much more eco-friendly than alternatives such as a hand dryer. Plus, we stock a number of eco-recycled paper products – made from 100% recycled beverage cartons – that are compatible with the dispensers.
